I don't think you did anything wrong. It sounds like it depends how many people apply for the book. It says at their site that reviewers are selected at random, so don't take it personally. Sometimes, more people apply than they have copies that they are giving out. Try for another one a different time. Good luck.

This is actually like a contest. I signed up because I love to read. Here are the site rules which may help settle any questions with regards to signing up and entry:
OFFICIAL RULES
The First Look Program ("First Look") is provided to you by HarperCollins Publishers, 10 East 53rd Street, New York, NY 10022 (the "HarperCollins"). First Look gives our readers the chance to read and comment on advanced reading editions ("AREs") of upcoming HarperCollins books.
ELIGIBILITY & ENTRY
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. First Look is open only to residents of the United States 13 years and older. Employees of HarperCollins, its affiliated companies and its advertising and promotion agencies, and members of those employees' immediate families, are not eligible. To enter, complete the registration form at http://www.firstlookbooks.com. Then, go to the "Book on Offer" page to request the ARE you would like to receive and tell us why you want to read it. All entries for an ARE must be received by 5 p.m. (EST) on the date specified on the Book on Offer page for the ARE. Only one entry per entrant is permitted. Multiple entries will be discarded.
Each entrant must be the rightful owner or have authorized use of the e-mail account indicated by the entrant’s e-mail address. In the event of a dispute concerning the identity of the potential recipient submitting an entry, the recipient will be deemed the person in whose name the e-mail account is opened. The e-mail account must be opened prior to the first date on which entries are accepted for such ARE. Entries become the property of HarperCollins and will not be returned.
SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION OF RECIPIENTS
A random drawing will be held for each ARE at the time specified on the ARE’s Book on Offer page by employees of HarperCollins, whose decision is final. The recipients will be notified by e-mail. The ARE is for the recipient’s own personal use and may not be sold. All federal, state and local taxes are the recipient's responsibility. In addition, HarperCollins will request that the recipients answer a few questions about the ARE and send HarperCollins a brief review of the ARE. The recipients have no obligation to respond to this request.
The number of copies specified on the ARE’s Book on Offer page will be given away, provided that many entries are received. AREs are not available for purchase, but their estimated value is approximately $20.
CONDITIONS
By clicking the "I Accept" button below, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the random selection of the recipients, which shall be final, and waive any right to claim ambiguity in these Official Rules. In addition, recipients of AREs who elect to submit reviews to HarperCollins hereby grant HarperCollins non-exclusive permission to use the recipient’s review of the ARE, his or her first name, and his or her city/town of residence, for purposes of advertising, promotion and publicity without additional compensation, except where prohibited by law. HarperCollins reserves the right to edit such reviews for clarity or to use only excerpts of from them; however, HarperCollins will not do so in a manner that alters the substance of the review. HarperCollins has no obligation to publish a review.
The entrants release, discharge, and hold harmless HarperCollins and its affiliates, subsidiaries, assigns, attorneys, representatives and agents, including advertising, promotion and fulfillment agencies, from any and all liability or damages arising from the administration of First Look and the use or misuse of any ARE received, including, without limitation, the following: (i) late, lost, incomplete, delayed, misdirected or unintelligible entries, (ii) any printing, typographical, administrative or technological errors in any materials associated with First Look, and (iii) any damage to the entrant’s computer and related equipment and software resulting from entrant’s downloading of information regarding First Look or participation in First Look. HarperCollins may only use the personally identifiable information obtained from the entrants in accordance with its privacy policy.
HarperCollins reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to modify, cancel or suspend First Look entirely or with respect to one or more AREs should a virus, bug, computer problem or other causes beyond its control corrupt the administration, security or proper operation of First Look. HarperCollins may prohibit you from participating in First Look or winning an ARE if, in its sole discretion, it determines that you are attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of First Look by (i) cheating, hacking or employing other unfair practices, (ii) abusing other entrants or the representatives of the HarperCollins, or (iii) otherwise violating any of these Official Rules.
ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE THE WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE OPERATION OF FIRST LOOK MAY BE IN VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS, AND, IN SUCH EVENT, HARPERCOLLINS RESERVES THE RIGHT TO PURSUE ITS REMEDIES AND DAMAGES (INCLUDING COSTS AND ATTORNEY’S FEES) TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW. FURTHERMORE, IN THE EVENT OF ANY UNAUTHORIZED COPYING OF AN ARE, OR ANY PORTION THEREOF, HARPERCOLLINS RESERVES THE RIGHT TO PURSUE ITS REMEDIES AND DAMAGES (INCLUDING COSTS AND ATTORNEY’S FEES) TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW.
Any dispute arising from your participation in First Look will be determined according to the laws of the State of New York, without reference to its conflict of laws principles, and the entrants consent to the personal jurisdiction of the State and Federal Courts for the city of New York over them and agree that such courts have exclusive jurisdiction over all such disputes.
At time of selection, books are sent to the address on file via First Class mail through the U.S. Postal Service. It is recipient's responsibility to make certain the address on file is correct and complete. HarperCollins does not track or replace an ARE if delayed, damaged, or lost in the mail.
THE ODDS OF RECEIVING AN ARE DEPEND ON THE NUMBER OF ENTRIES RECEIVED.
For the names of the recipients of an ARE, e-mail your request to firstlookQs@harpercollins.com at least one month, but no more than six months, after the date specified for the drawing on the ARE’s Book on Offer page.

Actually I have gotten one or two almost every month since I joined, I think after you post why you want to read the books, they acctually draw names for the books- kinda like the lottery. There is also another web site for them in Canada that I have gotten books from. Remmber after you read though, its a must to review the books on the site. Just keep trying and you will get one soon.

I have applied for 2 books and been turned down each time. I will just keep trying. For those of you that have received a book- did you request more than one each time they offered new ones? I was only choosing one each time. I would have better odds if I would have chosen more. That is allowed, isn't it??

I requested 4 or 5 last time, and did get one. I really wanted another one, but this one sounded really great too!
I'm browsing the offerings for this month, and might request 2.
I received this today:
Dear Wendi,
You have been selected to review As Good As It Got by Isabel Sharpe. Your Advanced Readers Edition should arrive at your address within 14 days via U.S. Postal Service.
If you do not receive it promptly, it may be delayed or lost in the mail. Unfortunately, there is a limited number of ARE's available and we cannot send replacements.
We know you look forward to receiving the book, as we look forward to receiving your review. If either of us cannot fulfill our part of the agreement through no fault of our own, there is no recourse but to try again next time!
Thank you for participating in the First Look program.

I registered for the book I was most interested in but got rejected.
What does every one put for their essay question as to why you want to read this book? I wonder if your odds are better, if you have a really good response to the question.
