Hi Everyone!

I just received a Sunbeam Breadmaker (basically new) from someone on Freecycle. Made my first loaf of bread (zucchini/chocolate chip), and it worked great!!! My question is - I never saw in the directions if you take the kneading attachment off prior to baking? I had to pull it out of the bottom of the loaf. Did I do it correctly, or was I supposed to pull the attachment out prior to baking?

:) Thanks!!

I use to have a bread machine and you leave the kneading attachment on.

Yep, leave it in there. Just don't forget to pull it out of the bread! One time, I threw away a partial loaf of bread with the kneading attachment still in it. I had to order a new one from the company, LOL!

I love my bread machine! Nowadays, I mainly use it for dough. I make pizza dough, cinnamon rolls, hot rolls--you name it! Also, I use all kinds of recipes that are not bread machine recipes, and they always come out fine! Just layer your wet ingredients on the bottom, the dry ones on top.

Enjoy!

Thanks Carol and Chris!! Thought I had done something wrong. I found the manual online, and it had a few recipes, so I'm going to look for a few more this morning.

Is it really important to use bread flour, or is all-purpose exchanegable with it? I haven't been able to find any yet . . . I was able to find bread machine yeast, but not the flour. I wanted to make a white bread, but don't want to go all over finding the flour.

I used flour that said, BETTER FOR BREAD, I think it was Gold Medal flour, it's blended just for bread, can you use regular flour? sure you can, you might not notice a difference at all. I never bought yeast that was special for bread machines and I never had any problem. You can adapt any regular recipe to fit your machine, just add the ingredients in the order that your make suggests, and finally have fun with it, I did when I had mine. I ended up giving mine to my neighbor.

Great Carol!! Thanks - I think I did see that flour there. I'll go back and get it today. :)

Funny note - I was so excited about the silly machine, and it was raining, so when I got to the store and the guy next to me got into his car, I was hurrying to get Logan out so he could back out . . . I locked the car, leaving my keys and cell phone in the drink holder by his car seat. I went in, got a few items, got to the check-out where I chatted with one of the ladies there, and realized I had no keys or phone! Safeway very nicely let me use their phone, and offered to get some cookies for Logan. . . they even offered to drive us home (1/2 mile), but couldn't find anyone with a car seat! So . . . they held my bags and purse, and I wrapped Logan in a blanket I use for carts to keep him warm, and trudged the 1/2 mile to my parents (yes - we live 2 blocks from them!) to get my spare house key. (No coat, nice and rainy, Logan's getting heavy . . . ) LOL I was cursing the bread machine all the way home because I only stopped to get the "needed" ingredients I didn't have. Anyway, I did make it to my parents, interrupted my Mom with her client to get the keys, trudged to my house, called my hubby to find where he left the spare keys, got those, and found the old car seat so my dad could take us back to get my groceries, purse and van!
My hubby just laughed when he heard the story. I'm laughing now, but I looked like a drowned rat! Thank goodness the bread turned out! :)

So, I guess I'll brave the store again to pick up that flour, and this time I'll put my keys in my pocket instead of the drink cup!

Thats a cute story, reminded me of the time I had the pick up truck, took the kids shopping to Pic N Save of all places, shopped and came out only to discover I had left the keys inside, I went back in the store asked for a wire hanger (back when you actually had door locks, this was on a 1974 truck) came out and was trying to get the lock to come up with that hanger, someone called the police on me! soon there was a police car coming slowly up my lane, he got out and said need some help? after all, I was standing there with 2 kids, and bags of goodies from my favorite store, lol, he got it open for me!!

All this talk is making me want to make some bread, I can make it in my Kitchen Aid Mixer. Have to think about it, lol

Awww, Wendi! I am so sorry that happened to you! Don't we all have lost key stories? One time, I took Rachel to Toys R Us, and couldn't find my keys when it came time to leave. I looked all over the store, all in my car (hadn't locked it), and all in my purse. I called a friend to come and get me, went to my car to lock the door, and when I opened the door, there were my keys, hanging from the latch hook inside the door frame! Somehow or other they had gotten caught there, LOL!

What kind of bread did you make? I usually use the Better for Bread flour too--the bread seems to come out lighter. I've used regular flour too though, and a whole wheat/regular flour mix.

I have a bread machine (Sunbeam) which I never use anymore. I always thought, that after everything was done mixing, that you might be able to take the paddle out, it was always such a bother to dig it out in the end!! I now make bread by hand, but thats getting to be a pain.

Oh - I love my breadmaker! Drat - we just started the South Beach Diet on July 4th, so we aren't eating bread right now, but I just loved the zuchinni bread, and I found a great basic white bread that I was making too. Can't wait until we reach our weight loss goals and start eating more normal again! :)
