Hi.
I've been thinking of getting a camera but I can't decide on which kind, film or digital. My family have told me that they haven't seen film cameras anymore until one day, my brother and I found one at Target in a package. Well hidden, I might say. The only thing that I don't like about film is the trouble to get it to get developed since I wake up late and the places where they develop film are closed. So two things I like about the idea of digital is that I can download or upload (whatever it's called) into my computer, and second, I can print them out myself. Still, I seem to go back to thinking, "Film or Digital?" Oh and the other thing I would like is to have a camera where they have that screen on the back so you can see how the picture will look like.
I know digital can be expensive, but I would like a camera that's good and affordable but not cheap in quality.
Also, is digital better quality than film?
What do you suggest? :)
EDITED: Never mind. I made up my mind. :)

I use both, but I must admit I love the Kodak digital I have
I do a lot of scrapbooking and it really helps if you can do it right
then. I have the docking station so I can print even without a computer
It is great at family gatherings. The quality is great and the pics are
just like the ones you get when you have film developed. If you have the
memory stick with it you can take it to stores and see your pics, crop and print too.
Hope this helps

I love my Kodak digital, too. even bought another one for my teen daughter. but i don't print at home. We go to CVS and just print the ones we want; there are alwys coupons or discounts, and you can edit and crop very easily.the pictures are usually .29 each, but if you only print 10 it's still cheaper than developing film.

Thanks for your replies. :D
Since my brother studied photography, I waited for the moment to ask him for information about film and digital. I ended up going digital and boy, it was the best decision I made! :D
The camera I was going to pick was gone (was told some cameras on display including the one I was going to get were taken out and no longer available. Forgot what it's called) Anyway, I got the next best thing than the one I was going to get. The Kodak 8.0 megapixel and 1 gb of memory card. I later got the camera dock and now I can even print my own pictures. I've taken so many pictures and I really love the freedom it has than with film. Now I don't have to wake up earlier to take the film roll to be developed and buy more rolls. The memory card is reusable. Digital has so many advantages than film. It even prints out better than scanned pictures.
If anyone wants a camera, I totally recommend going digital. :D

I love film and digital both. My newest digital SLR camera is great, because it accepts all of my 35mm film SLR camera's lenses. I didn't have to reinvest in several lenses. I worked with film cameras for a long time, and in some instances, I still take a film camera. I love digital for the freedom to crop, alter, adjust, enhance, and otherwise work with your pictures on the computer with photo editing software.
Walgreens makes it super easy to upload prints on their website and have them printed at one of their stores in everything from wallet size to large format. You can even upload pictures from home and arrange for them to be printed out at other locations. For example, you take pictures at a family event like a wedding or reunion and offer copies of your pictures to five of your cousins in five different towns. You can arrange for the pictures to be printed and waiting at the Walgreens in the town closest to each cousin. Many of the Walgreens are also open twenty-four hours. I've uploaded pictures from the hotel to be printed off at a 24 hour Walgreens that's two hundred miles away, but close to my home. I leave work, upload pictures and order prints at the hotel on the laptop, pack the car, and start driving for home. A few hours of driving later, in the wee hours of the morning, I stroll into the Walgreens, pick up my pictures, and go home. It's cheaper to upload from your computer and pick up the order from Walgreens (19 cents a print usually) than to take your memory card into the store and print from it (29 cents a print usually).

I have both - but I have been into photography for over 20 years! Digital cameras have made significant improvements over the last couple of years and if you aren't looking into getting into photography professionally - this is probably your best bet only because the digital cameras made for that type of photography cost about 6 x's what a manual camera does! Off the shelf digital cameras are so convenient for taking, uploading and printing pictures - I don't know wht anyone would get a manual anymore!

I have always been on the old fashion side so normally I would have to say film.But...I recently got married and the wedding pics were taken with a film camera 3 rolls of film which just happen to be the wedding and most of the reception pictures came in black no reason why.the first comment out of walmarts mouth was didn't you do digital back up everyone does that today you know. well the people that did the pics have been taking pictures for years.so...now I'm thinking if I had insisted on digital I would have a wedding pic with the new hubby!

Oh mom, that's terrible! I sure hope they didn't charge your for the pictures that didn't turn out! Was a family member able to get one of you two? Maybe you could both get all dressed up again for just a few hours and have some pictures taken. That way you'll at least have some pictures together, even though they aren't from your special day!
I have to say that I used to be a film person also, until last summer when my husband bought me a digital camera on a whim. (We were headed out of town and had to run into Wal-Mart for some ice and drinks.) What I love about my digital is being able to have my photos downloaded online with Wal-mart or Kodak and then ordering prints that way! They come out so nice and at Wal-mart you can still order one hour photos without going in twice!! I don't think I'll ever go back to film! No more 10-20 rolls of film sitting around waiting to be developed!!

Debbie...that is terrible! I am so sorry! I had this happen with the pictures when my baby was first born. On a few of them...you could see an immage...but the majority of them black as well. I was so upset...but I still had a few on another camera from when he was still in the hospital. (He was there for 2 weeks). I told my fiance' that I wanted a digital camera for Christmas...and thats what I got! I love it. If I dont like the pic I dont have to keep it!

Oh goodness, that is just terrible! The first thing Walmart blames is no digital back up? That's lame. The photographers have been taking photos for years? It was three entire rolls that came out black? Was it maybe a processing problem instead I wonder?
Worked in a cameras/electronics department a long time ago. The company contracted "Brand F" Photo to supply processing services for our chain of department stores. Other department store chains in town, Kmart and other discount stores, and several grocery stores in the city all contracted with "Brand F" Photo for their film developing. A "Brand F" technician left the back off of a photo processor and ruined several hundred rolls of film from all of these stores across the city--they all came out black. The poor "Brand F" delivery driver hauled in HUGE bags in the afternoon instead of the usual load. "Brand F" had issued everyone a copy of an apology letter, a copy of a free processing certificate, and included a roll of film. That was not nearly sufficient for any of the customers--YIKES it made your stomach churn when someone came in to pick up pictures--many angry customers. Sounds very similar to what happened to you--three entire rolls of black pictures--the other rolls turned out--same people and same cameras--in store processors have problems just like contract processors some times.

Thank you everyone for all your kind words! I spent several days crying over it.We have contacted several people that took pictures that day and I am starting to get a few pics and getting to put together a small album. I'm very hopeful that when everyone finds out they will start sending more.
Thanks notyyard maybe your right maybe it was walmart and not the camera. The camera has been put in a shop to be looked over were waiting to hear the results.
Thank you again everyone for the kind words. There are so many kind people in this forum.!!

I do like both but prefer digital. I like being able to look at the photo before I pay to have it printed. That saves money for me.
