I live in PA and everyone I work with is just raving about McDonald Sweet Tea and I was wondering if anyone here has tried it?

I hate to sound like a snob but I brew my own tea at home and can't imagine their version tastes much different! I checked and the friends who like it the most have only ever made instant tea (yuck!)

Any thoughts, comments? If anyone has tried it does it taste better than home brewed tea?

Ugh! I hate instant tea! I've tasted McDonald's Sweet Tea and I don't think it really tastes any different from what I make.

In all honesty, I don't drink all that much sweet tea, but my husband loves it - I would rather have unsweet tea. I buy the Lipton Family Size Tea Bags and put one of them in my coffee maker and fill the water reservoire with 8-10 cups of water and then brew it. I put about 3/4 - 1 cup of sugar in a one gallon pitcher and dump the tea in when it is done brewing, stir it, fill the pitcher the rest of the way with cold water, and stir it again.

Most of the time when we eat out, I just order water to drink. You never know how the tea will taste. It's usually either too weak or too strong, and if you get sweet tea, it's usually way, way too sweet and tastes like pure sugar.

That's how I make mine. I thought maybe McDonalds was putting something "special" in theres that everyone was raving about it! I hate going out to buy tea too. I got tea at Burger King a year ago and I asked the girl if it was instant or brewed she said it was brewed. Well, I took one drink and about gagged! She was about 16 years old so maybe it was "brewed" instant tea because it sure as heck wasn't "real" tea!!!!

I live in western PA and we have it. It's delicious, no lemon. I go to McDonald's drive-thru with my $1.06 and get one a couple times a week. Sure isn't low-cal though! It has been so hot recently and it's a great refresher!:)

Have any of you tried Red Diamond tea? I love it, and they have a sugar-free version made with Splenda (I don't like to drink anything with empty calories). I usually buy the individual bottles at Walmart or Target on those days when I am out and I get thirsty (.49¢ at Target, .67¢ at Walmart). They sell it in gallon containers too though.

OK gals, I live in Texas and everyone in the south drinks sweet tea. The southeastern states as well. I am from Ohio originally and all of my friends used to think it was sooooo cool that we drank iced tea all the time. Needless to say, iced tea was not a northern thing while I was growing up. We knew about it because my moms family is from Texas. Now if you go to NC, or GA, be prepared to have your socks knocked off by their sweet tea. I am pretty sure that the sugar content in one large glass is enough to make about 100 dozen doughnuts! I used to drink soooooooooo much sweet tea that I made at home. If I was out, I sweet tea out too. I had to give it up. When I did, I lost 20lbs! NO exercise, just no sweet tea...............God I hate getting old and having to lose weight the hard way! LOL When are they going to make a pill that you lose weight no matter how much you consume and how little you exercise??? That would be better than a million dollars! LOLOLOLOLOL;)

P.S. If you are going to make iced tea at home, sweet or unsweet, do yourself a favor and loose the Lipton, Salada and all the others. Luzianne is the ONLY tea for iced tea. I promise it is a big difference! I hope that you will try it and let me know what you think. We go through about 2 gallons of tea daily at my house and running out of tea bags is almost like running out of oxygen!

I agree. Luzianne is the best for brewing! It's the only kind we use! Very refreshing flavor!

I love Liptons extra sweet tea. I can only find it at my local grocery store. I love it. Haven't had McDonalds yet. My family has been iced tea drinkers since before I was born. I must get it from them!

Have you ever tried Trade winds Kettle brewed. It to me was the closest thing to real home brewed. There extra sweet sold like crazy.I tried it once and lisa is right when she says theres enough sugar for a 100 donuts.Thats how this was.I liked there regular sweet tea. and the unsweet.

If you haven't tried it and you run across it.Definately try it !! :)

For those of you who drink a lot of tea, be sure you are getting plenty of iron in your diet. Not too long ago, I went to give blood, and my iron level was too low. I was surprised because I take a supplement, and I eat a lot of spinach. She asked me if I drink a lot of tea, and said that the tannins in tea can negatively affect iron absorption. Just a heads up!

This is very true!!

When I took my daughter for her 5 yr. physical Her diet was discussed So i told her ped. what her favorite drink was. Its sugar free caffeine free peach tea walmart brand. And she said that was fine but be sure to give in moderation because to much tea could affect her iron level!

Also if you are pregnant it is not good to drink alot of tea or coffee. They did not tell me that until I was about 4 mo. and was drinking tea like crazy. They prescribed me iron pills to get my iron back in line and i had to take them til I was in my 8th month. Just a little advice to the ones getting ready to have little ones. :)

I was so excited when Mickey D's got sweet tea. I love it. We have a little diner her that is called Iggy's and they have the best sweet tea but it is not always open. So I am really excited about it. My daughter who is 19 does not like McDonald's sweet tea. She just tried it for the first time today.

I usually make decaf at home but I like to have Caffeine when I am working. I stopped almost every morning when I was teaching summer school:rolleyes:

Thank you for the heads up! I had NO IDEA. Perhaps that is why I am sooo tired, they have never tested my iron levels. Thanks again!

I really like the Mcdonald's sweet tea. You know being from the South, I can tell if it is instant stuff/or what we call "old" tea....you know like it is a day old. Sounds silly but some of you may know what I mean. oh, and the deal with the iron, I USED to work with the American Red Cross Blood Services Mid-Atlantic Region...( when I say used to they fired me when I told them I was pregnant..long story) anyway, we would tell people to go home and eat some molasses or cook their dinner in a cast iron frying pan. Do many of you these days still cook in the cast iron pans? I am proud to use my grandmas right regularly.

I am from North Carolina; sweet tea is taken very seriously here. All of our McDonalds have surprisingly good tea here, good enough to compete with any of the old timer tea makers here. Never had bad tea at McDonalds, but Burger King is hit or miss. I hate it when they forget to sweeten the tea.

I know this is an old thread...but had to post! I have been drinking
NOTHING but Sweet tea since moving to TN. I make my own at home, but I get McD's
every morning from drive thru when taking son to school, and after school----The South
does take their sweet tea seriously-and it is much better than up North... The only Sweet
tea I Don't like ....is from KFC...... I don't know what they do to it, but its gross,
and tastes OLD & like its been sitting around for ever, no matter what time of day they
put it out.

The plant where I worked used to scoop up piles from floor and put it back into the hopper which was then processed to pack....seriously...it was gross. I also used to work at a plastic bottling co. and the guys who worked there used to spit honkers & do the farmers blow into the plastic bins that got melted....and when the bottles came around, you could see spots...you knew what they were.... alot of These bottles are used for Bath & Body Works!! (Also...Red Rose includes a wade miniature ceramic collectible piece. - a little something extra)

Oh that is just grose...yuck! I used to work in a glade factory...well, we done the packaging for glade anyways...lol...when the warmers fell off the line, they would just put it back on...I know that a few people got some that were broke, but that is what we were told to do, if we threw them away we got in trouble!

Can you buy the Red Rose at a local grocery store, or is it at a specialty store? I would like to try it!
