Google Voice Local Search is Google’s experimental service to make local-business search accessible over the phone.

To try this service, just dial 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411) from any phone.

Using this service, you can:


search for a local business by name or category.You can say "Giovanni's Pizzeria" or just "pizza".

get connected to the business, free of charge.

get the details by SMS if you’re using a mobile phone. Just say "text message".


And it's free. Google doesn’t charge you a thing for the call or for connecting you to the business. Regular phone charges may apply, based on your telephone service provider.

Note: Google Voice Local Search is still in its experimental stage. It may not be available at all times and may not work for all users. We’re fine-tuning the service to get better at recognizing your requests. It’s currently only available in English, in the US, for US business listings.

Thanks chicagodave! I'll have to program that number into my cell phone. You never know when you're going to be out and about (or at home, since my local service charges me for information) and need a phone number.

I love these free 411 numbers but only from my house phone.. They tend to have ads you have to listen to before you get to actually hear the number you requested and even though it is a " free" call you use up mins on a cell phone!

You can also google with your cell phone by sending a text message. Of course the best part is IT'S FREE! :D Just send a text to 46645 (GOOGL) ~ (NO E) from your cell with whatever you want info on. For example...you want to find a Pizza Hut in zip code 20008 Just send Pizza Hut 20008 to that number and it takes about 15 seconds for them to text you back with the info. This feature is great when traveling.
