I had never heard of this movie, but my son wanted to see it, so we went and saw it at the dollar movies.

Wow! Will Smith is a really good actor! It was a very depressing movie though, so don't go see it if you're sad. But, it was very, very good. I would actually like to see it again. From IMDB:

Robert Neville is a scientist who was unable to stop the spread of the terrible virus that was incurable and man-made. Immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and perhaps the world. For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone. Mutant victims of the plague -- The Infected -- lurk in the shadows... watching Neville's every move... waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind's last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But he knows he is outnumbered... and quickly running out of time.

I saw this and I agree, Will Smith was superb! I liked that it didnte have the cookie cutter everything goes well ebding, it was "realistic". I saw it twice.

Yep - hubby and I watched it last night before bed - I thought they did a good job, but would have liked the ending to be resolved a little more completely.

Will Smith was great!

I don't blame you - I thought they could have done that differently.

Yeah, the dog scene was depressing. My son and I both cried. :(

I believe they did that to show what a caring and compassionate man he was. However! I would've preferred they'd done it differently as well.

I really want to see it though, but my mom called to inform me about the dog...I thought I would pass.:(

I do think they almost needed it, to show how reliant he was on actual companionship. While I didn't like it, and looked at my husband saying "How COULD they!!!", it really was appropriate in that it helped the story line.

Still sad about it though. Boy did it give Will Smith a chance to shine - you could really see the emotions crossing his face as he realized what was happening.

I agree with you all. We watched it last night, and after reading on here something was going to happen to his dog, I was ready for it. I'm sure I would have cried, but I had to remind myself that it's only a movie and the dog was really ok in real life. Sounds silly, but it worked. :) Will Smith was great.
I didn't read the preview, but knew he was the last survivor in NY, but watching it, you didn't really know what was going on until about 45 mins in to it, unless I missed something before that.
I too think they should have gone more into the cure and showed some more being cured and the stages of it, but that may have dragged it out. Sometimes I like shorter movies.
We're watching that No Country for Old Men or whatever it's called tonight.

Ya know, I was thinking about the dog. They should have had Will use the vaccination on him. He knew it worked on animals by that time. And he knew he was going to die anyway. It just bugs me!

I wonder if that was due to editing or just what they were thinking. I haven't heard anyone who was truly satisfied with the way it ended. It was like the movie was going along and then....THE END.

OMGoodness! I just finished watching this online about 30 minutes ago. I can not believe I waited so long to watch it. This is now on my top 10 list of movies to see! Will Smith truly showed what a wonderful actor he is! This movie had me going from beginning to end.

I agree that I wish the ending had been a bit different. But I tell you .... even with that one fault ... this movie was so great that I can't even take away any points for it in my head. :)

Btw, he DID use the vaccine ... formula 6 ... on the dog. Remember? Right before he gathered him up and sat down on the floor to hold him he gave the dog an injection. But then the dog started changing anyways. :(

There were only 2 movie scenes that have always stood out with me as being the most realistic, heart-wretching, SPECTACULAR scenes that should not be missed. Now Will Smith has TWO scenes right up there with them: the scene mentioned earlier with the dog and the one right after when he says "Hello" to the "lady" in the video store.

In case you have read this far and I am not boring you to death ... just in case you are curious ... the other fave scenes from my lifetime are:

Mel Gibson's balcony scene in "Ransom" when he breaks down.

Tom Hanks' scene in "The Terminal" when he first sees on the overhead tv monitors that his country is being blown up. NEVER have I seen one man say so much without uttering a word!!!
