Well since we live in Fl, I started yet another rose garden today:) just put in 5 new rose bushes and weeded all the crap out.Few weeks ago we pressure washed the house and I also reseeded the grass this morning.
Trimmed the azaleas and the creep mrytles.
Just curious what kind of yards does eevryone have?:)
I love my roses and pretty green grass!!

I live in the country my yard is fenced around the whole backside and we see lots of cows.Right now is great because they are starting to have there babies and they are always fun to watch running around the field and it tells me spring is right around the corner.
I pretty much live on a hill its always breezy and the grass starts out nice and green but always ends up burnt and brown by mid to late summer.I love roses and have them planted along the front of my deck along with a couple purple flowering shrubs they are so pretty but I really don't know what they are called.
We like to plant a small garden every year mostly so the rabbits will have something to eat and the cows will have something to run through when they decide to venture outside there area! its very quiet in my neighborhood and you can see for miles from any direction you look.

In New Mexico there is not really grass....it is all dirt. You can have grass if you plant seeds or sod, but you must water is constantly. The climate here is HOT and DRY so all grass dies (OR you have the $$$ to constantly pay someone to keep it up!).
I have 8 rose bushes planted in our yard and we planted trees 2 years ago. When we moved into the house it was brand new so we made it our own.
When you walk outside we are surrounded by mountains and this is awesome in the winter with all the snow. We live 15 miles outside of Santa Fe (in the country) and we have horse stables right next to our house. We have a fenced in yard so the dogs can go out and roam.
Albert does all the planting and maintaining the yard. The only thing I would change is the mud when it rains. We have an enormous amount of mud at our place with nothing but dirt on the ground. We also live on a dirt road so we go mudding in our vehicles on a regular basis. :)

Right now our front yard is baren, nada, zip, not even weeds, we just had a new small deck added on last summer, and my DH put in a beautiful walkway, now we need some fill dirt and then landscape the yard (really small) that part we are going to do in the Spring.

I am from Florida btw and moved here in 2005 for Albert. My parents had a wonderful backyard with trees, plants, flowers, etc. It was beautiful! And their grass was soooo green! I miss that part of Florida...that and the beach!:(

If I was honest with myself I would say that adjusting has been EXTREMELY HARD. This is where Albert is though and I will stay here for him. I make the best of being here and get out as often as I can to learn new things in the area.
I just visit the beach as much as possible when I go back to Florida.:)

So, I just bought a foreclosed home and my yard is DEAD! I have a lot of work to do. I am hoping that the lawn will come back to life. I have no idea what I am doing as far as landscaping goes, we will see how I do! I know I want to put some morning glories is by the house, but other than that, I need some help!

like you i bought a forclosed home, when i bought it for the first year I kept getting surpises in my yard. Tulips would come up, then some other different flowers. I am now on year two, becuase i wanted to know exactly what was there and see if i liked it there. Now next spring i really can get in there and move some stuff around and put my own touches on it. Still working on the yard. there are several parts of it that i just cannot get to green up. its not dead just a brown color, fertilizer is not helping so we think that this fall we need to airate the front yard and then overseed it for the spring. Maybe that will help and make it look a little nicer.
Did i read here someone has gooseberry's in their yard? My grandmother used to make us gooseberry pie. Now you cannot find them anywhere around here. at least not in Indianapolis that i have seen. I don't think anyone i know even remembers them. and i am only 34.

I am a low maintenance yard kind of person, so for me I have hosta's in the flower bed. I can add new stuff every year as i please around them but they come up every year and always look nice

I have a bluegrass yard with a sprinkler system to keep green..I live on a golf course. Have view front and back of the course. I have the only house in subdivision with this. I have 4 maple trees, lilac tree, 2 dogwoods(whiteandpink) and a magnolia tree...carpet roses and knockout roses...Many many bushes and annuals..I do the plants and other half mows....
We are both retired so it is not so bad to take care of it...We don't travel much in summer..so we can keep it trimmed...also avoid the crowds...

My mom has some huge elephant ear plants, but needs to know if she should dig up the bulbs and store them for next year or does she just leave them in the ground???

My Mom has always left her bulbs in the ground here in Georgia. But it could be different where you live. Hers come back each year. We have temperatures that drop pretty low here in January. 10 degrees and lower sometimes. Hope this helps. :D

Your mom should mulch her bulbs good if she leaves them in the ground..Here in Louisville I would dig them up..we sometimes get to zero in the winter..Normally in 20's at night..
