woo0hoo! I knew it had something to do with payment money, but I didn't think about blackmail!

I started to get a funny feeling about the McCorkals way back when the sisters were buying pumpkins at the curb market, but I just couldn't put my finger on it!

My favorite part of the whole book was the cookie throwing scene. :p

I did enjoy this book for the most part, but the characters tended to overshadow the plot, did ya notice?

I thought the book was okay. :( I figured the politicians had something bad going on (that's par for the course). And I figured Fly in there, but not Katie, and I thought that Ed being married to the "wife" wasn't a fair plot twist, because we weren't really given any depth on her character even at the party scene.

Is it me, or is the "I will kill you" message not really tied up at the end? They got the phone call with the recording right after the got to Sister's house. At that point, wouldn't she have had to either leave the tape recorder at the daughters' (no mention of Fly going there) or have it lifted off her person in some way between the daughters' and home??

Also, if the drugs at the Skoot were a plant, who planted them? I musta missed something?

And why was Fly leary of anyone knowing he knew Doris??

Ohhhhh - I'm really behind!!!! I'm still on chapter 14, but can't wait to finish - guess I kind of got in a funk. I loved the start of the book, but it seems to have gotten kind of slow to me . . . . .

Yep - I was just getting ready to post some more comments. I finished the book the other day. So far, there have really only been a handfull of people who have read the book (I think). I'm hoping we have a bunch more for the next book. :)

LOL I never even had a chance to start it. Life took over for awhile. The book is on my nightstand collecting dust.

I actually really enjoyed most of it - it had a stronger start than finish. I read it in the middle of the night for the most part - when my son woke me up and I couldn't get back to sleep, or when I was trying to keep myself awake!

LOL - I need to find my list of notes so I can post them!

Finally finished! Never thought it would take me that long to finish such a little book - I sure didn't think my life was that busy!
The twists just kept adding up there at the end.
I thought it was interesting when someone (I can't remember who and I just dropped the book back to the library) said that Sara Hannah can take care of her own problems. Then the meat clever to the chest? All the plastic surgery. And then all the baby's momma drama came out and sort of explained that comment, but alot of the twists and relationships weren't really explained. Wonder if the next book in the series hints back at anything from this book?
I too cracked up at the thought of a flying cookie right between the eyes!

I completely agree with you. I'm still a tiny bit confused on all the relationships, but think I have the main gist of it figured - Fly's wife was really the politician's (Richard) mom.

I think there was also a twist with Richard's wife having been married before, but not getting a divorce?? Got kind of confused on that part.

So the blackmail, if I'm understanding correctly, was more about the being married to 2 men at the same time, rather than the "real" mom being Katie???

I did enjoy the book, but thought it got a little sloppy near the end - was the author in a hurry to finish the book? Was she already busy planning book 2?

At some point, I think I will give book 2 a try - I enjoyed the sisters banter, and liked the colorful characters. I'm also interested in finding out what happens with Haley and Sheriff Reuse, and Henry and Debbie - do they stay together???? :)

I did read the whole book, but just haven't participated much in the discussion. This was mostly due to reading it very quickly and not jotting down notes. I'll be doing things a bit differently next time.

Overall, I would rate it about a 6. I would be willing to try some of her other books. I think she has actually received more recognition for poetry. I like poetry, but I have to be in the mood for it. A lot of poetry is more like a riddle to me:confused: I really don't like trying to analyze a piece of writing forever "trying to get the meaning"

I agree - I enjoyed the book, it isn't my favorite, but it is also the first in a long series, so I'm wondering if I would like the second better because she had a chance to establish the characters?

If we went on a rating scale, I'd be saying somewhere around 4.5. I just didn't really enjoy it too much. Some of it was kind of fun, but it got really hard to keep going about a third of the way in and just didn't really get any better. I didn't like the wrap up either. I think when you have a mystery, somewhere in the unfolding of the story you should meet all the players in the drama. You can't throw in a key character that near the end without any background on their involvement. It's not fair to the reader who has been faithfully trying to unravel the mystery thru the given clues/information. It's like cheating someone in a game of chess.

I'd really honestly rather not read any more of her books, ladies. :( I'd like to see something with a bit more humor or more plot or more characters with depth and complexity. I hope I'm not sounding like a jerk or anything, I'm just trying to relay my thoughts, and not fight or be disagreeable in any way, okay? :o

I agree with Lynne on this one - I may read her second book on my own just to see how the characters progress, but I'm not all that excited about the book.

I did enjoy it, and it was a book I would not have normally read, so it was worth it, and I have enjoyed discussing it!

:)
