I thought I would start this thread...not really vacation thread but tell us what there is to see/do in your town. Folks may not know about all the beautiful/fun places America has to offer...so why not tell them
Big or Small...

Please write the name of the town/state

Since I started this thread I'll go first:

Vacaville, CA: One of the newest things to do here is our Nut Tree Family Park
It's got amusement rides, a video arcade and several restaurants and shops around it...free admission but rides do cost.
We've got a small museum in our downtown.
Many farms with horses, cows and alpaca's...grapes too.
We've also got factory store outlets all in one area, people come from all over the world to go shopping here.
We have our own radio station KUIC

Nashville, TN~ There are several things to do downtown. The country music hall of fame is really neat. When the Titans came for football that was a big plus for us. There are lots of small pubs with live music (country) downtown also. Other than that, just malls and more malls!

Big Bear Lake, Calif.

2 Ski resorts, Snow Summit and Bear Mountain, both have fantastic views of the lake while you ski.

Lake...with Skiing, Boating, Para Sailing, Jet Skiing, Sailboats, Boat rentals, and a Swim Beach.
Fishing for Rainbow Trout, Large and Small Mouth Bass, Cat Fish, Crappie, and the dreaded Carp.

Magic Mountain for the kids, with an Inner Tube run, and Fast Tract.

Hiking Trails galore.
Bird watching, including the Bald Eagle's in winter.
Lots of places to stay in and around the lake, Cabins, Motels, and Hotels.
Small Village with lots of small shops & 2 Movie Theatres.
Lots of fast food places and a few good restaurants.
Holcomb Valley...like being in a whole different world, where the Gold Miners Mined Gold.

Theres not awhole lot to do around here! Rhonda Vincent was born and raised here but other than that there are only about 150 population. when Rhonda comes home shes just like the rest of us down home country folk.

I was trying to think of some great attraction to our area but unless you like corn and wheat fields there not a whole lot to do. Kirksville is our closest town were we do have a couple nice colleges we have Truman state University and kcom medical college but thats about it. Heck were lucky to have a walmart close by and recently we got a Ruby tuesday and Home Depot Wow we are really moving up in the world! LOL!! :)

I live in Carthage, Missouri

Home of the Precious Moments Chapel and various other things Sam Butcher has put in.

We also have a Civil War Museum, an old courthouse that has paintings in it, the Battle of Carthage Site, and a museum called Powers Museum that changes it's display quite often.

Those are just a few of the things that come to mind. We are also headquarters for Leggett & Platt company and have several Schreiber Cheese plants as well as Butterball Turkey.

We also have a Shrine of the Immaculate Heart of Mary here that has a wonderful Christmas Display. People drive far and wide to see it. They also have a seminary for priests which is primarily Vietnamease.

I'll have to dig a little to get some info on the town - all I have now are just vague rememberences of what I've heard about it, but I'll try to work on it! We have an Indian Princess grave, but I'm not sure of the history, and this was were Fort Des Moines was originally located. The town was mapped out and planned by Joseph Smith before the L.D.S. were driven from Nauvoo, IL.

We have a Post Office, Casey's, Smurf's Bar and Grill (best burgers & ribs!), Double Dipper Drive In (combo icecream shop/diner/laundry mat/pinball, pool and video rental -all videos are VHS and pre-date 1991!! ) Also, a rather new edition: The Mt. Idy Tatoo Parlor. There is a home based consignment shop in town as well. There used to be a game farm/feed store, but they closed up. We have one 3-way stop and the speed limit in town is 25. Also, Montrose Public Library and a firestation. The town is right on the Mississippi River. There are eagles every year, some decent fishing, and lots of other bird varieties to see. Last summer a bunch of college kids came floating down the river in bizarre home made water craft (when I get my puter & printer going I'll post pics) and the did a little variety show at Riverside Park.

I'm in Sunland, CA -- which is about 20 - 30 min north of Los Angeles !

In our "immediate" area, we have a recreation area called
Hansen Dam . There is a giant swimming pool with water slides,
a fishing / boating pond, and down in the middle of it all is
Equestrian Trails .

And within an hour's drive of my town you have :
**all Major Theme Parks
( disneyland, magic mtn, knotts, universal studios, etc)

** The Mountains
** The Desert
** The Beaches

I consider myself very lucky to be where I am !

Dont know if it has made national news or not, but our little
town has been fighting a Home Depot from invading our town .
This has been going on the last 4 yrs because Home Depot isnt
playing by the rules ! To read more about our fight , here is the link :

Hi, I too lived in Sunland for many years, then Tujunga, in Seven Hills on Owens Place, so I know the area very well. Where are you in Sunland, near what?
Yes, I heard about the Home Depot...I wonder who will win this, hate to see an empty store, but I hated that Kmart! I wished it was a Target!

Grants Pass, Oregon - here’s a link to our town. www.grantspasschamber.org/ There’s quite a few “pages” here about different things to do, & some great photo pages - check them all out.
We don’t live in town (we’re out in the “country”) & seldom go there, but it’s a great place for tourists. Grants Pass is a historic town with lots of antique shops. There’s a Grower’s Market twice a week, & an Artisian & Crafters Market on Saturdays. A Historical Museum & an Art Museum, & several art galleries. Two parks on the river, & several smaller parks. Wildlife Images (wild animals) Rehabilitation Center is a great place to tour.
We’re in a big valley here, surrounded by the Siskiyou, Cascade and Coastal Mountain ranges. The Rogue River, which runs through town, also goes through “wild & scenic” sections that feature narrow canyons & class 4 whitewater rapids, & is popular with rafters & kayakers. Not far from Grants Pass are the Illinois and Applegate Rivers and beautiful lakes and streams. There are lots of places to hike, fish, camp, play golf, or just about any outdoor activity.
Less than a 2 hour drive west is Oregon Caves National Monument, the Redwood Nat’l forest, & the beautiful rugged Oregon coast. Less than 2 hours driving east is Crater Lake Nat’l Park, as well as several other high mountain lakes. About an hour away is Ashland, known for its Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Mt. Ashland ski resort, & Jacksonville, known for the Britt Music Festivals every weekend during June-mid Sept.

I think it is nice! We just moved here in November and I fell in love with it right away! My hubby LOVES to fish and we even have a lake right in the middle of town! Right next to where he works even!

This is the biggest city I've ever lived in but the people are a lot nicer it seems than where I came from and there's a lot less crime!!....and I came from a city with only about 20,000 people!

It really is a great place, there's so much diversity. What we don't have is (1) dry desert, or (2) major shopping... no malls, Target, CVS etc. Forgot to mention there's several real small towns in the valley.. places you can go poke around the general store & chat with the locals - you seem like a person who'd enjoy that.
