So . . . I'm in chapter 10, and have to go back and look at my notes, but thought I'd better get something up for chapters 7-9!
If I recall, these chapters deal more with:
Finding out that we don't know as much as we thought about Ed.
Learning more about Bonnie Blue Butler (at least Patricia Anne got to go to a nice lunch with her!)
Meeting Fly McCorkle (may have spelled that one wrong - I don't have the book in front of me!)

Yeah, I'm right with you. I need to refer to the book before replying to make sure I do it in the appropriate thread. It's getting interesting...
Good idea, I should make notes as I read!

So what the heck is going on with Doris? Does anyone think she's involved with the murder?

I don't know--she hasn't been mentioned for a long time, has she? I think someone mentioned it earlier, about why would they even introduce her if she wasn't going to come back into the story later....you may be on to something!

I must say, a husband like Fred after 40 years is a rare breed indeed! The gardenia bush made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside! :)

Dawn, I am a ding dong head. I have read up through chapter 10, and this thread is for chapters 7-9, LOL! I'll pay attention better in the future.
I agree, Fred is a keeper!

I thought the gardenia bush was really sweet. Patricia Anne has a pretty good hubby, although I'm surprised he isn't asking more questions about what she is up to.

Oh! I am going back through my notes, and I remember really feeling annoyed when the author started writing about the signs that go up for elections, and then stay up LONG after the elections are over - anyone else get annoyed by these? I agree with what she says - I think they should be required to take them down the day after, and if they don't, I think the candidates with the signs remaining should be fined - don't know how to do that fairly, because I know they don't personally put each and every sign up themself, but I really wish something could be done!

Doris actually did come back in the storyline in these chapters. I wasn't as far as I thought I was:o

You know, now that you guys have mentioned all the food - I've started noticing it now! Thanks a lot!!!!!
You are absolutely correct though! There is food all over this book! Reminds me of a person I worked with for quite a while. He was truely a person who lives to eat! Boy is he a great person to call when you are traveling though - he knows where all the great food places are!

I had to look her up, just out of curiousity to see her picture. She was not overweight! She is also no longer living. Here is some info on her:
Welcome to my Anne Carroll George Fan site
Sadly, Anne passed away on March 14, 2001, but her memory lives on in the words she wrote and those she touched on her journey here.
Anne wrote the fabulous Southern Sisters Mysteries. The final book in the Southern Sisters Series, MURDER BOOGIES WITH ELVIS has just been published. It will be a bittersweet read for me. It was sad to say goodbye to Anne, but now we will have to say goodbye to Aunt Sister and Mouse as well.
Anne was also a Pulitzer-nominated poet, with several published volumes of poetry to her credit.
Her latest volume of poetry, A Map That Lies Between Us, has just been named Book Of the Year, by the Alabama State Poet's Society!
Anne lived and wrote in Alabama, and her talents have given me and her other fans many hours of tears and laughter.
I put together this site so that other fans, and new readers of her books could stop by and find out more Anne and her wonderful works.

Thanks for the info! I had read somewhere that an Anne George had passed away, but that site did not mention the mystery books, just the poetry, so I didn't think it was the same person.
:( I know her books have received great reviews! I'm going to do a search now too! Thanks for the info!!

You are welcome Wendi! Thanks again for starting our little book club!;)
I should have posted the link that I got that from--I just googled Anne George and it was on the first page.

When she said she didn't vote for the one candidate because he sounded like Liberace, that got me to thinking about the numbers of people who really do vote like that. I mean - nice hair, good voice, nice butt?? ... qualifications for office??? I imagine though that a lot of people do that, because it takes real time & dedication to research out the really important information about a candidate. Things like voting tendencies, who are the major contributors and is voting swayed in favor of those, etc.
So what the heck is going on with Doris? Does anyone think she's involved with the murder?
OMGosh. I just dropped my book and ran to the computer! I am in Ch. 9 where the sisters go in to see what Reuse wants to talk to them about, and I think the plot is starting to come together in my head. Here's what I'm theorizing so far = Doris is Ed's wife. (freezer scene - makes it even funnier now!! lol - had wife in military and no mention of death or divorce records) She and Fly offed him? (Next door neighbor said he takes care of the dog). I'm not entirely sure of the connection between Fly and Doris - if they are lover's, then why is he still here? Not sure where the drugs and the "vandalizing" of the bar work into this yet, though. :( But, that's what I'm thinking right now. You guys that are ahead or done are prally laughing at all I got wrong. :p :)

Interesting theory about the love triangle mood4amelody!
Here are a few notes I jotted down:
The author mentions Patricia Anne's thoughts about not noticing the crunch of the broken glass after the vandalism of the Skoot n Boot - interesting, or was it just thrown into the mix? (book ch. 7, page 79)
I also find it strange that Patricia Anne keeps randomly falling into a deep sleep (sometimes with drool! :) ) I know the whole murder thing is tiresome, but randomly falling asleep? Hmm...(book ch. 7, page 82)
The gardenia bush - I find it kind of fishy that Fred would just randomly send a gardenia bush to Patricia Anne. Ok, maybe that's because of my own suspicions when my husband comes home with flowers on days other than anniversaries, birthdays or valentine's or sweetest day, anyone else? (book ch. 8, page 94)
Last note for now - Doris' home isn't one that can usually be supported by a waitress' income, suggests Patricia Anne - wonder where she's getting her money? (book ch. 9, page 103)

I like what you have mentioned - I've noticed those as well.
I originally wondered if the Gardenia bush was from the killer - kind of a warning, and was surprised when it really was from Fred. I don't think he did anything wrong, except push her to stay away from the Skoot a bit harshly.
The sleep habits of Patricia Anne have me confused - I'm wondering if they will ever be tied into anything else in the book, or if the author was just putting them in there to talk about her personality a little???
Good point about Doris' home. I do remember that passage, and wonder if it will be explained. I can't remember how old they said she was, but I don't think it could have been a second income after retirement - I somehow thought she was too young to be retired.
Great points!!

LOL - I LOVE what you have mentioned here Lynne!
My neice told me that my SIL (who I believe IS a Republican) won't vote for McCain because she can't stand his voice! I'm sure my SIL would just LOVE that my neice is telling me what she is secretly talking to her about!
I also love your theory on the Doris/Ed/Fly thing! It would actually make sense if it happened that way!
Hmmm - maybe I'll actually read a bit more tonight! Thanks for getting my curiosity going again!!
