Prayer Request for "Pam/countrypkin65"
As many of you are aware, TN and many other southern states were hit hard by tornadoes over the last few days. One of our members, Pam aka countrypkin65 lives in Hartsville, TN which was hit very hard!
Was 72* today....now we are under Tornado watches......Tornados are touching down in Nashville, and west of Nash....threat overnight and into AM...Its been raining off n on all enening so far, some wicked lightning, pretty windy. In Nashville, a Sears building collapsed, 20 Tractor trailors crashed all due to Tornados. Doesn't look good. Gotta shut thiings down for the night.
Please say a prayer for Pam and her family and hopefully we will hear from her soon once power has been restored!

I'm on it with the prayers. Nannette and I have been trying to think of ways to find out if she's okay. If anyone has her personal info, please PM it to me and I will begin making calls. If you know of any sites or places we can find information as to victims' names, etc. that would also be very appreciated.
We are trying to be proactive, but I think in the long run, we may just end up having to "hurry up and wait" for Pam to get things together and let us know that they are okay. I'm just worried to death about her, though. She is just such a sweet and kind lady, and the thought that anything might have happened just makes me cry.

Here is the link for the Red Cross Safe & Well list. If anyone has Pam's info, please let us know if you find her on here. Last name and either phone number or address is required. I am just kicking myself because I don't have the envelope that she sent me her nicorette sample in!:( If I'd have kept that I would maybe be able to let everyone know something! :(

They must be waiting for notification of relatives for the others. I understand that currently 55 people didn't see the end of the storm. I will keep checking back with this thread for info, but I'm going to try to post and find some forms for DA, and get my mind busy. I'm way to emotional and this is just eating me up right now. :(

Prayers being sent out for all those affected (and that our friends are safe)! Hopefully the old saying goes here - No news is good news - I would imagine there would be a lot of things going on now, including power outages, helping friends/neighbors, clean-up, etc.
Just keep praying . . .

Sorry, didn't see this separate thread for Pam, and posted over in the weather thread. Here's some info from the Lafayette city website, which is being kept updated by the government folks there. There's already new info updated at 6:00 a.m.
For help locating friends and family, their website says to contact the Sheriff's office:
Help in Locating Family
The Macon County Sheriff's Department may be contacted for help in locating missing friends or relatives. The Sheriff's phone number is (615) 666-3325.
Here's the latest news added at 6:00 a.m.:
News Update from Lona Vinson, Macon County Chamber of Commerce
February 8, 2008, 6:00 a.m.
President Bush is scheduled to arrive in Lafayette around 9:05 CST this morning, February 8, 2008. He will be speaking at the new fire station.
Macon County schools will be closed on Friday, February 8.
An Urban Search and Rescue Team from the Metropolitan Nashville Fire Department arrived in Lafayette yesterday. They will be searching homes one-by-one to make sure all survivors are located. Macon County appreciates the assistance from Nashville!
Most businesses in Lafayette and Red Boiling Springs are back in operation today.
TN 10 is blocked in both directions just north of Ellington Drive. This is due to tornado damage.
Other roads leading into the tornado-damaged sections of Macon County are blocked off by police and may not be entered by the general public.
The American Red Cross shelter at the Lafayette National Guard Armory is still open. The Nashville Humane Society has set up a facility outside the armory to take care of pets.
Tri-County Electric has restored electricity in Red Boiling Springs and most of Lafayette now.
It may take days or weeks to get electricity restored into the areas that were in the direct path of the tornado.
Business Information
The tornado was west of the downtown section of Lafayette, so most businesses were not directly affected. As of February 7, 2008, most businesses are back in full operation. A few notes:
Fleetwood Homes has asked their employees to show up at Fleetwood. Employees will be sent to work on helping with the storm clean-up. They will be getting paid their regular salaries.
The F&M Furniture factory was not damaged, but the F&M warehouse and mini-storage was destroyed. (The factory is on Scottsville Road about a mile from the square. The warehouse is much farther out on Scottsville Road as you head towards Kentucky.)
The Macon County Veterinary Hospital was destroyed.
Churches
The Antioch Missionary Baptist Church on Galen Road was completely destroyed.
The website also asks for donations and lists an address to send checks or money orders, as so many lost so much in Macon County and Lafayette.
Here's the link to Lafayette's website, which includes a photo gallery of tornado damage (photo link at the bottom of the home page):

Articles about gawkers impeding cleanup efforts and police arresting people for looting starting to appear.
Here's a little ray of shining light--the Macon County TN emergency management director says they've located all but one of the 218 people that were unaccounted for! This is good news!:
Keith Scruggs, emergency management director of Macon County, said on Saturday all but one of the more than 200 people that had been unaccounted for had been located.
"That's not to say there's not somebody out there that we haven't got," he said.
One challenge has been a communications barrier with the local Hispanic community, Scruggs said.
Rescue workers were searching a pond where a cadaver dog had signaled a possible body.
"If a dog hits on that area, we're going to still search it, even though we don't have anyone missing in that area," Scruggs said.
Rescue workers had earlier spent about two hours digging in the wreckage of a collapsed home after a dog had signaled that a body might be buried there. It turned out to be a false alarm.

Thanks for the update Judith. I hate to hear that not only have these people lost everything they have they have, they have to put up with looters, those low life's should be shot on the scene.
My continued prayers for Pam and her husband as well as all the other people involved in this tragedy.

For Hastings, the town where Pam lives, the sheriff's office is now referring calls to the "command center". Their #s are (615)666-9364, 9367, and 9368.
I am going to try and call them again on Monday to see if I can get any more information on Pam. I thought they would be extra busy with calls on the weekend from families off work for the week and checking on loved ones.
Pam is in Hartsville, not Hastings;)
For all those of you that have pmed me your info in case of an emergency--I have recorded it. I have not replied to all pms but if you sent it, I added it to my list;)

Dear Start Sampling members/FRIENDS. I am so overwelmed by your concern, reading this has truly touched my heart. I am so very fine.
I went through the tornado unhurt, both house & home; and my family is also ok.
We wathced the storm on the weather map as long as we could until the power went out. And then switched to radio. our oldest son called us to the sunroom in the back of the house to show us the sky....it was bright orange, like nothing we had ever seen before. As we watched, and the winds whipped around, and trees bending, the light in the sky got brighter .....when it did, we saw this huge tornado, coming towards us, and to the right of our home. it was about a mile away. We were scared as h e l l.
It was then, that we got into, and huddled in the closet of our master bedroom, and also looking outside through bathroom windows as the storm approached. There was an enormous amount of wind, and the house shook/trembled.
It seemed like 45 minutes of this, it just kept going on and on. I was on my cell phone the whole time with my M-i-l, who lives about 1 mile down the road, and we were talking eachother through what we each were experiencing.
Wal, (my husband)then called the police, and cop couldn't talk, but told us that the sky was due to the explosion of the gas pumping station in Hartsville. (We are 1-2 miles from Lafayette, and about 12 miles from Hartsville)
The storm, the tornado, literally, went right by us. It really only took about 6 mins. Its path turned, about a mile away from us, and we were truly blessed. Others unfortunately, not so lucky As you all know by now.
My town, is in ruins. It is so much worse in person, than you could possibly imagine. My hhusband and I have been helping some people who were in the direct path of the tornado. Their house is partially standing, but deemed unsafe, and has to be bulldozed. You simply cannot believe the damage this storm has caused.
When we first went down the day after the storm, we just cried. We couldn't do anything, and felt helpless. When we went into the local wal-mart to get supplies, food that didn't need refridgeration, etc, we just heard from people who were affected, and in the tornado. People who had lost relatives, friends, etc. It is just so sad.
Again, I am ok, and I am sorry that I haven't been able to get on here any sooner. The phones were hooked up on Friday...I think, .....but we use it for fax only, fortunately, the cell phones kept us in contact with our family, and friends etc.
You guys are amazing.......Thank you again, for your concern. I am ok.
Please, keep your thoughts and prayers focused on those who have lost so much in the storm. If anyone can help, I can give you the local info on where to send donations, or the web site for more info.
God Bless!

The electric workers are amazing. & They're still out there. Round the clock. There's still parts w/o electric. We have neighboring policeman, and other county workers here helping out. When the Prez was here...........trust me, the people here really appreciated him coming here. The TN people are some of the BEST people you will ever meet. They expect nothiing, and give with all their hearts...even if they can't afford it, they help others, and give of themselves.
We are using my husbands work truck, its a flatbed, and we went where we could, to ask people if they needed our help. Alot of them turned us away. The first family we helped....we were their a good part of the day. We go out each day, just seaching for people to help until we can. There are areas where we still R not allowed to go.
VanillaBean LOL...thank you! its a washed out spiral, an 8 month overdue foil, and badly in need of a haircut! & Rebate Queen...I dont do ***y lingerie anymore!! its more of a hurry up n get it done before the kids hear us thing! HA HA! (can I say that? or should that be bleeped?)

I'm glad you all in Nashville are ok too. You have no idea how bad it really looks until you R up close and personnal. Its so unreal. The 1st place we stopped and got out of truck, it took our breath away. Piles of debris, trees with trunks big around as 5 ft and 100 ft tall...just laying on top of the earth. Or broken limbs splintered like toothpicks. The dirt splattered on the inside of walls that partially remain, makes you question How, as you walk up leaning staircases and still find mud splattered on ceilings and picture frames that have broken glass.. Inside cabinets, pieces of grass, and strewn about inside house are pieces of tin roof from who knows where.................its unbelievable. Windows that have been blown out, leaving its glass pieces about the size of a pea, in piles all over the floors or grounds. Chunks of earth moved, and sitting in places it doesn't belong.
I can go on and on trying to explain. I will try to take some photos during our efforts, but...its hard, I don't want to upset any one anymore than they already are.
When I was helping people from one house pack up some remaining items, I accidently dropped a wall hanger. It was a gun holster with a hook on it for a little boys room. It broke in 2 pieces. I almost cried. I went to tell the owner of the house, and the daughter said to drop it. It didn't matter. With everything else...who cares! But...I cared. I felt horrible for breaking something that even though it wasnt an expensive piece, it was one of only a few remaing belongings to them. I know every little thing matters, when you've lost so much.

You are a good looking couple, and you have nice speaking voices to boot.
God bless the police, fire departments, Red Cross, churches, and everyone else pitching in to help in this disaster. Lona Vinson of the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, really keeps the Lafayette TN website updated faithfully at least daily and even twice daily, with posts as to contact numbers, curfews, road openings, power restorations, relief shelters, and all sorts of solid needed information. Wherever she may be tonight, Lord bless her, too.
Still praying for everyone affected by this disaster. God still works miracles every day; we just don't always pay attention until something terrible happens!

Pam so glad to see you and your family are safe and to hear from you! I watched a few of the video's including yours and started to cry!! I just cannot imagine!!
I was in a tornado when I was a teenage when my family went back to TX for vacation. My parents were born and raised in TX. I remember how scary it was. The sky was pitch black, the wind was HOWLING like I had NEVER heard before, as well as thunder and lightening all around us. We were in my Aunt and Uncles storm cellar, but my Dad REFUSED to get in. he stayed upstairs and watched the entire storm roll through. The aftermath was horrible. HUGE Oak tress uprooted and laying across the road, cars tumbled all over, trash everywhere, as well as parts of houses missing!! I will NEVER forget those images. Makes me glad that I live in CA. I'll take an earthquake over a tornado!
It's so nice to hear that you and your hubby are out helping others who have been hit hard by this disaster. That's what this world needs MORE of, people HELPING each other!!! God Bless you!!
Once again, so glad you and the family are safe!
Big Hugs!!!

Hi friends. I just wanted to let you know we went to ackersville rd. today. One of the hardest hit areas in Macon County. We didn't get in too far, when we found people to help.
The home was completely destroyed by the tornado. You wouldn't believe the mess. The couple were both badly injured. The wife has a broken back, and the husband has a broken neck. Baby was thrown from the house, but unharmed. They hid in a closet, which suprisingly was partially standing. Today we had several piles going. Metal, (scrap)wood, salvageably wood, vinyl (siding), and tree limbs, branches etc. We also had a save pile of personal belongings.....not much salvagable. Its so sad.
The house, my husband said, who ever built it ought to have a lawsuit against them. They didn't secure the frame of the house to the foundation. They also put straps on the bricks, but didn't fasten them either. 1/2 The floor of the house moved about 25 feet and fell into the crawlspace, and the other half was taken by the winds on the property elsewhere.
There was also 2 abandoned dogs wandering around the property. Very affectionate. My younger son and I got them hot food from the red cross truck, and tried feeding them. The long haired one took the first piece and ran off with it, and burried it with her nose. She came back, and then let us hand feed her. The other male dog, took several bits from us, but neither of them ate on their own while we were there.
We plan to go back tomorrow, if the dogs are still there, we will take them to the temporary animal shelter down the road from our house. There they will take photos and pass them around. Hopefully the owners will come forward for them.
We meant to bring our good camera w/us...but it got left behind. Heres a couple from my cell phone. We'll get more tomorrow.

Yes, They do have a temporary shelter at the Armory (National guard site) which is right down the road from me. They have 2 big buses, which I guess are equipped with kennels etc. I haven't actually been inside them yet.
I haven't been to any sites today.....we had abit of snow here overnight, and we also had some personnal things that needed to be attended too. Tomorrow will be a good day, and we are going back out in the field, so to speak, to help with whatever we can.
I will try to get over to the animal shelter, and ask your questions and let you know!
Thank you!!
Pam
PS...our county doesn't have a permanent animal shelter, however they've just recently discussed aquiring a site for one, and are waiting funding etc. I think they will see by this especially, that it is REALLY necessary. (TN has alot of stray dogs)
