Guess what? We went to a home and garden show today, entered all the drawings, and won a free roof! Isn't that awesome! They called, but then they actually came by our house tonight to tell us in person!

They are coming tomorrow to measure the existing roof! I know it's kinda odd to be excited about winning a roof, but it's something we need. Ours is 14 years old, and we've had to have repairs done on it three times now. I'm sure the recent ice storm didn't help it any.

Just wanted to share!

Wow that is great! We just put a new one on this year. We were lucky that my husband's brothers helped him do it. I am sure he would have preferred winning a new one though ;) . It was alot of work! That's really a great prize to win, it will save you lots of money. Congrats!

My hubby, brother-in-law, and stepdad put the roof on that we have now. My hubby is SO happy he doesn't have to do it again any time soon.

The owner of the roofing company came, had us pick out the shingles, measured the roof, then had us sign a contract saying what work would be done and how much it was going to cost--"Homeowner pays $0" :D

The roof is valued at $3500, and has a 30-year warranty.

So what color shingles did you get, Chris????

The color of our shingles is called Weathered Wood. It's a medium gray color. Nice of you to ask!

I forgot to tell you guys. The owner wanted to take a "before" picture of our house, and after the roof is on, he'll take an "after" picture. They want to use the pictures for promotional purposes. Before he took the picture, I told him I'd like to pick up the loose trash that had migrated into our yard. He said, "You know, I noticed all the trash in their yard, and I am so happy that isn't the winning house!" LOL!

We got the new roof today! I am so impressed by how quickly they did it. Question: I'd like to do something to show my gratitude. I was thinking of dropping by the roofing company with a giant batch of homemade cookies and a thank you card. What do you all think? Any other suggestions?

I always go with baked bread. You never know who's diabetic or whatever. I like the idea of cookies, though. Yum! Most roofer's I've met like the good ole' case of beer the most! lol

Wow that was fast! now that is a company that deserves those cookies! are they a local company Chris? If so do you have a newspaper that you can write to and thank them that way also? We have a small community newspaper here that only comes out once a week (Wednesdays) I have seen that done here in the past.

My hubby voted for the case of beer, LOL!

What kind of bread?

Good idea, Carol! And, it'd be free advertising!

Okay, Budweiser. Oh, bread... lol I just get the Schwan frozen bread dough. It has 2 white and 1 honey wheat. If you wanna do it up special, throw it in a basket with a little honey bear and a little butter bowl.

My best friend and her hubby own their own stucco business out in CA. I asked her what she thought, and her vote was for cookies. She said her guys would go nuts if someone did something like that for them. Therefore, I think I'll go with cookies. Thanks, guys! I appreciate your input. :)
