View Full Version : Good wrapping paper!

In keeping with the holiday season, I like good wrapping paper.

1. Thick enough, opaque enough, or wildly printed enough that you can't see what's wrapped up inside
2. Not brittle and flexible enough that it doesn't split on corners
3. A cutting grid on the back like Hallmark paper, or a design on the front such that you can cut the paper straight without folding a line or getting out the yardstick
4. A surface that tape, bows, and tags will stick to, AND not come off when you put them in the cold, cold trunk or truck box for that trip to the relatives
5. Printed in register, with all of the colors lined up right to make the design, so it doesn't make your stomach and eyes go OWW! that's not right
6. In a decent color scheme that will actually go with the bows, ribbons, and tags you already purchased on after Christmas sale last year (or the year before or...)

Any additions to the good wrapping paper qualities wish list?

Happily using some sturdy standard paper with a cool silver snow holographic design which goes with everything and several Mylar "papers" in various designs purchased last year on the cheap, and almost done pulling out of hiding and wrapping the stuff bought over the past year!

I like good wrapping paper too, but I am a cheapskate! I just use whatever I was able to find on clearance for 75% off from the previous year. :o

I am the world's worst gift wrapper so I don't really care what the paper looks like. Even it it looks pretty on the roll, it's just gonna look like a big mess when I am done with it anyway!!

My sister and I used to see who could wrap a gift the ugliest. I won that contest the year I bought her a new purse. I left the purse in the bag from the store and used a ton of tape to keep it closed. I then covered the whole bag with as many bows as I could fit on it!! It ended up as a big ball of bows under the tree. It was awful looking but it was a fun way to approach our wrapping inadequacies. lol

When the kids were small my SIL would wrap the kids gifts in the Sunday Newspaper Comics, they were colorful and the kids loved it, they didn't care what the paper looked like, they were too eager to see what was inside.

My brother just said today that you know gift bags had to be invented by a man, as men don't even like going shopping let alone wrapping a gift. He himself has moved up to gift bags and even tissue paper and a little curling ribbon or a bow since he married. Before, his gift wrapping amounted to the Farm and Fleet or Big R bag tied shut with a bow stuck on it. So, I can relate to the ugliest gift wrapping contest with the purse in the bow-bedecked and taped shopping bag! :D
