OK, so I already do this... My hubby, our (25 year old) daughter, & I shoot fireworks. Several times a year as professional pyrotechnicians, when the company we work for needs extra show labor - such as Independence Day or some major festivals. Several times a year when the 3 of us and some friends we've trained do consumer fireworks displays for private parties or wedding celebrations, or for charitable events. Safe and legal, of course, with all required permits.

As a professional, I have seen what those lovely bursts look like from just a TAD too close to the center when shells perform too low. Because we are well trained in safety measures, and I use all the safety equipment available to me along with my own common sense... the worst injuries I've ever had involved either wood slivers or hammers & nails & a finger in the wrong place...

Wow, that must be exciting! My husband and I have set off the rinky-dink legal ones, but nothing like that! :)

LadyPyro,

You are my new HERO!!!!! 4th of July is my favorite holiday and has been since I was a little kid. When I was little, my dad would take me to pick out the fireworks and 4th of July, we would put on a show for the entire neighborhood. Since I no longer live at home, I still go and buy lots and lots of fireworks and put on a show for my neighbors. They all love it, until the sheriff comes and threatens us with a fine! LOL Needless to say, he doesn't like me very much. hehehehehe.

However, for the last 2 years we couldn't shoot off fireworks since it was so dry here in Texas. We still went and watched them though.

This year, I will be in Fort Lauderdale for the 4th. I can not wait. What could be better than sitting on the beach and watching fireworks over the Atlantic Ocean??????

Thanks LisaRKR! What could be better, you ask? Sweating in a hard hat, shooter's jacket & all the other safety equipment and shooting those fireworks of course! When the weather changes, and it's no longer so dry, try going to your local community board and see if they'll give you a permit. In our community we can't even own a sparkler, much less shoot any other consumer fireworks. But we can get a permit, given that we're professionals with proven good judgment for site size and safety. That spells out where and when the shoot can be done. Then we can go get the fireworks.

You could check out fireants.org , which is a Texas fireworks club. I don't know how far you are from them. You don't have to be a pyrotechnician to join a group like that.
