I have 2 cats and they have a problem with stretching up the side of the wall and scratching, i got one to stop doing it but i can't get the other to stop. And one wants to chew on wires, bread ties, strings. And i can't get them to stay off of the table. Someone please help, does anyone have any ideas on how to get them to stop. They are good cats, i don't want them to do something that is going to hurt them, or cause a fire from chewing on wires... HELP!!!!

Spray them with a water bottle whenever they are doing something you don't want them to and just yell, 'NO"! I hear that works pretty well.

Well one loves water and the other doesn't, but i will try that lol. I've heard there is a spray that you can buy that will keep them from scratching things, but i don't want to spray any nasty mess all over my house... I was thinking about getting them declawed but i heard it makes them mean, if that is true i don't want evil cats lol

I've never had a declawed cat that was mean. Mine have all been really sweet. Never heard that, either.
The spray is to keep them off of areas you don't want them on. I don't know how it is now, but years ago, it smelt funny and didn't work. lol

Please do not have your cat declawed. I own 4 strays now that had been declawed when I rescued them. They are not able to defend themselves!! There is a type of spray you can get to spray areas you do not want them on/scratching. I cannot think of name. A spray water bottle is what I used for mine. You just have to be consistent which is a pain! Cats detest pepper so at one point I had to mix up a spray bottle with a little tabasco and water and spray on my counters to keep them away. Which really was a pain cause dummy me did not think that I had white countertops and would have to bleach the "orange" color out. LOL Good Luck!

I have never heard about cats turning mean when they get declawed. My parents have 3, and my brother and SIL have 4 that are all completely declawed and none of them are mean. They were all declawed when they were kittens, so I don't know if the age you get it done has something to do with it. My husband has always only gotten his cats' front claws removed and let them keep the back ones. If your cats are INDOOR cats that you don't let outside I don't think you have to worry about them defending themselves.
As for the behavior issues, my parents tried the water bottle to keep the cats off the table, but it didn't work too well. I think it would be worth trying though- each cat is different. As for the scratching, do you own a scratching post? Maybe getting a few of them would help. As for the chewing, my parents were told to buy the really thin, rawhide chews (like small dogs use). Their cats used to use them so maybe that would help keep yours from chewing other things.
My parents have trouble with one cat messing with the mini blinds, so he can look outside I guess. They leave the blinds up during the day, but don't want to do that at night so if someone has a good solution for that one, I will pass it on to them.

I second the scratching post idea. My cats used to claw my furniture so we splurged and bought a 150.00 cat scratching post with beds, they IMMEDIATELY stopped clawing the furniture and stayed off the table too because they preferred laying in their cat bed. Definetly worth the money.

Have you tried the sprays you buy to stop him? I've heard that works, but alot of the time if they are fixed they like to spray sometimes, specially if there is another male around. I would try the store bought spray, or ask the vet if there is something you can do to stop him. good luck :)

[Hi, hope somebody can help me, i have 2 non de***ed male cats, one a little older at about 15 months, really dominant over the younger one. We have just moved house and the older one has been urinating and deficating all over the house, how do I stop him?
Thanks
Ann
I wish I had an answer for you. He is definitely marking his territory. Did they get along before you moved? We had 2 female cats that were fine until we moved into my grandma's house. We had the upstairs sectioned off so they couldn't go downstairs with my grandma's cat and dog and that is when one of them started to mark my son's room. Unfortunately we ended up getting rid of her. Maybe if you can catch him in the act you can scold/yell at him or try spraying him with water and yell "no" and put him in the litter box. Good luck to you.

Once they start spraying it is hard to fix. Best to get them neutered when they are still young. I would still get them neutered. Not sure if you have this in your area, but to save me money I have bought several spay/neuter certificates from out local health department for 25 bucks. Way less than what vet would charge. ( They have some contract with different vets to do at a lesser fee). Many times they spray because they are mad. I wish you the best of luck on this cause even though cat wee-wee stinks, male cat wee-wee is disgusting. LOL

i usually spray the cat is doing something wrong with a water bottle but i also give the other cat a treat in front of the other cat as a sign that being good has its rewards. i also have two kittens and they are almost six months old. (angel and kiwi)
