Hello everyone, yesterday, around noon time my husband had his second heart attack in about 2 months, he was helping our son do a small cement job, said he didn't feel good, sat down and passed out, my son called 911, then called me, the paramedics were there within minutes, they took him to our local hospital, and from there they air lifed him out to UC Irvine Hospital, which is about 60+ miles from here. Further tests today indicated he has a faulty Aortic Valve that is stuck and not moving like it should, which will be replaced and 1 blocked artery which requires by-pass. He has been scheduled for open heart surgery tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. He is in good spirits and is looking forward to getting this done and over with. I will not be able to be at the hospital with him due to the weather conditions here, it has snowed on and off all day. So tomorrow I will have to put my faith in the doctors and God, which I have every confidence in. Any additional prayer's can only help.

Thankyou so much! my husbands name is David, my son Steve feels so bad and blames himself because this happened while his dad was helping him, but I have assured him this is in no way his fault. I think he starting to believe it.

It may be hard for your son to look at it this way but...
If it didn't happen now when there was only one blockage, what could have happened later?? It very well may have saved his life to have this happen now...(if I didn't think this way, I don't think I would still have any sanity)
I'm so sorry that you are not able to physically be there Carol, it has to be nerve wracking....
Many prayers and much strength will be sent your way from all of us!

I was wondering if you were okay because I had not seen you on here.:(

I am really sorry that you cannot be with him in the hospital and I know that is very nerve racking. God will watch over him for you and make sure that he is okay.

My thoughts are with your husband and your family. I wish him the speediest recovery and get well's!:)

Carol,
You, David, & Steve are in my thoughts and prayers. I am also praying for David's care team: that they are at their best, and that their minds and hands are steady and guided by a higher power. You take care of yourself, Carol, so you'll be able to help David heal. If there's anything else I can do, just ask.

Carol, if it's not a good time for you to "talk" to us, that's okay. There are lots of prayers and well-wishes that are ongoing! Not thru just the bad times. If you wanna let folks know something, just PM someone and they can take care of things for you. I can't think of anyone right off hand that wouldn't be happy to be able to help.

Anyways, big, big HUGS!!

Surgery was a success!! Everything went smooth, they only had to replace his Aortic Valve, the by-pass wasn't needed after all!
I called the hospital tonight to get a progress report and his nurse said he is doing very well and talking their heads off, then he called me! I was shocked he was feeling this good to call and already sitting up, drinking broth and feeling tired but ok otherwise. He can't wait to watch football tomorrow!
I am so thankful this is over and he is on the mend.
I'm totally exhausted from not sleeping and worry. I will sleep good tonight!

I want to thankyou all for your prayers and best wishes, this means more to me than you will ever know. Prayers work!

LOL, you women are just the BEST!!! thanks again for the prayers! I just talked to Dave and he said he was feeling really good except for being really sore, which is to be expected when you just had your whole chest opened! He said he has refused all pain meds that he didn't feel that bad or hurt that bad to have them...sure...they must be putting it in his IV? He said he is just really tired and needed some sleep, and to watch some football!

It snowed last night and is still snowing so I will not be able to get down to the hospital again, not only that they have closed 2 of the 3 roads here due to rock slides. I took a picture of the snow this morning from my kitchen window which I am including here.

Thanks again to you all!! You are a blessing!!

Dave's sister, Susan, was able to visit and watch Football with him today, she also brought him some Candy and personal items he needed.... His sister is an RN also, so she could give me a good assessment of what is going on, how he is doing, and how he feels. Dave is a very hyper person, can't sit still, he was asking the doctor when he could go home, that the hospital was too noisy, he was hungry, didn't like the hospital food, and wanted a beer,....the doctor told him he might get released Wed. or Thurs. BUT he cannot come home to this elevation just yet, (about 7,000ft.) he said he will need to stay near the hospital for another week after discharge and then come back in for his check up, his sister has offered to take care of him for that week!!
He had also been refusing all pain meds, then complained to his sister that he was sore, so his sister told him to take his pain medicine. MEN! he finally agreed and it knocked him out so maybe he will get some sleep now, lol

Again ladies thankyou for all the prayers! they worked!! to you all, a huge HUG!!

Guess I should have waited to reply...LOL!

Carol, Dave sounds like he is well on his way to a speedy recovery!

He sounds like my Dave. Can't keep him still, he HAS to be doing something ALL of the time, except when he is sleeping and then he rolls over. He drives me NUTS when he is home on vacation. He complains about not having anything to do and asks how I can stand to stay at home all day. I guess he doesn't think cleaning house, cooking meals, doing laundry, running errands and taking care of our 17 month old Grandson is doing "anything."

We had a little bit of snow last night but it melted as soon as it hit the ground. The girls hope for a white Christmas every year, but we haven't had one.

Big hugs right backatcha!

The reason they allowed the prayer is that she is in a private school that allows this, but it was at the discretion of the teacher to allow it too, that was very nice of her!
My SIL has taught the girls (7 & 4) that when someone needs a prayer she will tell them lets pray for Uncle Dave or whoever it may be, and they will all pray together.

I just talked to my husband, he is feeling really sore, which I can totally understand, but he let me know atleast 10 times, lol he is tired and wants to get out of the hospital, then he asked, what are you making for dinner? then just as fast said, don't tell me, lol I guess the food there isn't to his liking. He said they took out a few of the tubes, I didn't ask where  ... he is very ansy and wants to get out...he is already telling me the surgeries I have had are nothing compared to his...he was talking so fast I thought they must be giving him some good meds! Oh yes, he is getting better! lol

Great new Carol!! Is there family or friends close to him so they can bring in food from outside for him? If we still had my parents house in Garden Grove, I'd drive down and sneak him in something good, since UCI was only a 25 minute drive! LOL!

You can have the crack that's around here, but you'll have to take the whole rest of hubby, too! ROTF

ROTFLMAO Lynne!

When my Mom was in UCI they had her on dopamine. My older sister and I said to her, "Mom, what did you always tell us about drugs??" She laughed and said, "Stay off dope!"" LOL!

Yes, his sister is only about 40 miles from him, but he is not allowed outside food yet...he said he finally had a real breakfast this morning, french toast, peaches and coffee...I think they are still giving him soft foods, because you are not suppose to strain yourself.

Just got a call from his sister while writing this...she said Carol, I feel sorry for you, I told her she could have him, it would be my gift to her...she said NO thanks! lol

I talked to Dave a couple of times today, he had some stress tests where you don't actually do anything but somehow they determine if your heart is beating ok, well, the doctor came in this afternoon and said he and 2 other doctors got together and looked at the tests and he is going to need a defibrillator put in, they are going to do surgery on Thursday, he said that the doctor told him it will take from 3 to 3 1/2 hours. Needless to say he is feeling down and wants to come home, tomorrow I am going to the hospital, finally! the road is now open!

Thanks again for the prayers! Yup I am going to have to get a remote for that defibulator....I was reading up on it, it can go off a couple of times a year and it actually shocks you.....Bionic? Electrifying? well see...

LOL about the corn, yeah it is his favorite veggie, I don't think I can bring any food, (his sister already brought him candy) they have him on a low Cholestrol diet even though his Cholestrol is way under 200, he just isn't use to food without 1/2Lb. of butter on it....but he is going to have to change his food habits, that will be the toughest thing for him, atleast he can still have his beer!! 12 oz. at a time....

Thankyou both for the well wishes!

I was finally able to get to the hospital today, it was further than I thought, just about 100 miles, but we were there within 2 hours....Dave was so happy to see me and Steve that he could hardly contain himself, It was like the best gift he could ever get! He looks good but tired, I got to meet 4 of the doctors who have been treating him which was nice, one sat and explained what they were going to do tomorrow, that the surgery should go smooth, and if all goes well he can come home Saturday, the doctor said he would be fine to come back to this altitude without any problem, when Dave heard this his spirits were lifted, he was extremely happy! So once again ladies thankyou all for all the prayers and wishes, they mean so much to me and I want you to know I appreciate each and eveyone of you! A huge thankyou and HUGS to you all!

He was so glad to get out of the hospital, now he just has to heal and behave himself.
He is on 6 new medicines, plus we had to listen to the doctor tell us all about the defibulator he has, that he will get a card in the mail that he must carry in his wallet which identifies the make of the device in case of an emergency, also he can never have an MRI, cat scans are ok, going to an airport you have precautions...all of it was informative and interesting.

He is so relieved to be home! This morning he is really hurting, after being hooked up to an IV and receiving his meds that way (which must of included pain meds, something he didn't think they were giving him) he finally agreed to take a pain pill, so he is sleeping now. Yes, I know exactly how you sister felt, it has been just one day and I am ready to send him back....it has been a honey do day from the early morning, make me some Cinnamon Rolls, ok, then he complains they don't taste good because his taste buds are off, then it was the coffee, same thing, from there it was time to take the first set of pills, 6 + 1 stool softner, then I hear him saying I hate taking pills, so I said you have 2 choices, take it or leave it, how would you like to go back to the hospital?, he says, NO, I am never going back there, I would not go through this again, finally he takes him meds...from there it was every 5 minutes and a new request, take the dog out, get me some water, clean the dogs water bowl, get the newspaper, get the mail, cover me up, fix the heating blanket, what are you doing, come here, go there, etc... then I had to go get his antibiotics, the pharmacist said your insurance doesn't cover the cost of this one pill, it is 80 dollars but I am going to give you a break and charge you 60 dollars, this is for 6 tiny pills....the other one is covered by insurance and is only 10 dollars, while there I had to get him Iron pills, stool softner, gauze, and a few other things, then it was a stop at the grocery store, I get home and I see he has been in the Chocolate cause he has left the torn paper and crumbs for me to clean up....I tell him he has 2 more pills to take right now, and the grumbling starts again, then it is time to make dinner, easy tonight, frozen Pizza and Salad, Yup you guessed it, another complaint, I'm not hungry but I will eat...like he is doing me a favor...by then I didn't care if he ate or not....he manages to eat about 2 peices of Pizza and then is tired so he lays down and in a few minutes and it's Carol what are you doing? I tell him I am trying to have one moment of peace! CAN you come here...and so it goes on and on...I am now praying he gets well as fast as can be! It's now 12:05 and I haven't had one call from him in about 20 minutes, must be sleeping, thank God!

Sorry Carol, but your reply gave me a chuckle. My sister threatened to tie her hubby in bed and tape his mouth shut with duct tape!! ROTFL!! She said I was ready to strangle him if he uttered one more request. She made him stay in their bedroom (they have a small 3 bedroom house) in bed and told him if he needed anything to call out for her.

He had her running from their room to the kitchen and back because he'd forget to ask her to bring him something. She told him she was going to move the fridge in the bedroom if he asked for one more thing after she just asked him if he needed anything out of it! LOL!!! ( I can so see her saying and DOING this...ROTFLMAO!!) :D

She said it got so bad (like you have described) she closed their bedroom and their hallway doors all the way when he was sleeping. She said it was silent for about 30 minutes, then her cell phone rang. It was him calling her wanting to know why she wasn't answering him when he called for her!! She said I was ready to pull all of my hair out!! LOL!!

She went to check on what he needed, he said he was lonely and wanted her to be in the room with him. She gave him his meds told him she'd go get a movie for them to watch. By the time she got back to the room, he was sleeping again. She left the room and closed the doors hoping to have a few minutes of peace. Her cell rings again, it's him asking where she is and why isn't the movie on. LOL!

After the tenth time he called her cell she took the land-line phone out of their room. He started calling her from his cell!! So she took that away, too...LOL!!

She told me she is so glad he is back at work and she is too. She took 3 weeks off to help him out after his surgery. She said ... I NEED a vacation!! I said come out here. She said NO, he'll want to come to see Jason and James, (their sons) I'll NEVER have a free moment!!!

I hope Dave is feeling better and getting stronger everyday.

Hugs

I guess the pain from heart surgery mutates when it spreads to family. It goes from being chest pain with the 1st person and mutates to pain in the @ss when it gets to family members who are caring for them!!!! God bless Carol, I hope he realizes how lucky he is to have you! We all do!!

Mae, I can totally relate to your sister and what she went through,....thankfully my son took Dave to his doctors appt today at the hospital, I have had a few hours rest, lol, he called me when they got down to the bottom of the mountain and said they were almost in an accident, an SUV coming up the hill hit some ice, spun around and almost hit them, that is all I would need right now! thank God they were safe!!! I have about another hour or so before they are home....then it will be back on duty, lol

How frightening Carol!! So happy they were NOT in an accident! How did Dave's Dr appt go?

Have you gotten a lot of snow? It has snowed here the past 2 nights but the ground is too wet for it to stick. Our girls are all bummed! LOL!

I know the roads have been horrible, especially the Pass. Hubby had to go to the Oxnard office Monday. He said the Pass was a B*tch! He stayed up here Tues and Wed at their Hesperia office. Today he is in Garden Grove at a meeting all day! He wasn't too thrilled!

Oh boy your husband was where I lived before moving to Big Bear, we lived in Simi Valley....I can imagine the pass, it always gets snow! accidents and too many trucks, lol I wouldn't be too thrilled to be spending the day in Garden Grove either, lol

The doctor's appt went really well, they checked his Defibulator, did some tests, and up'ed one of his meds, said he was ok to take a shower and get his incision wet but not to rub on it, today he has another appt, this one is with the doctor who did the surgery, which I think will go well also. Dave is going really well! Looking at him you would never know what he has been through in the past 2 weeks.

No snow overnight, thankfully!! just cold.

Yesterdays doctor appt. went really well, Dave saw the doctor who did the surgery, he said he was doing extremely well, that he could take a full fledge shower, then he took out a couple stitches where they had a drain tube, the incision is glued together and is healing nicely, only a little bruising, I think when this is finally healed it will be hard to see where they cut. The drive home was something else, took 4 hours, thankfully the next appt is another 3 weeks away...he should be feeling pretty good by then, not as sore as he is right now.

Dave is sick this morning, I think it may be either the medicine or stomach flu, lets just say there was quite a mess this morning, I am now doing laundry, and wide awake. I feel so bad for him and there is nothing I can do to make him feel any better. If he doesn't feel better by daylight I will call the doctor and see what I should do. all is calm for the last 1/2 hour, so I think he may of fallen asleep, I don't want to disturb him, if I go in there the dog will growl at me, and if he is sleeping this will wake him up, she is his protector, lol

Carol, So sorry to hear Dave is not feeling well today. I pray he feels better soon. If he does have the flu, I hope you don't get it!!

His incision sounds like Cashton's. he had no stitches or staples on the outside, he was taped. It is soft and smooth, not raised like they normally are. The Dr told Richard and Kim just to be careful and not let it get too much sunlight in the Summer months because it will be very sensitive.

Have a wonderful day! :)

Yup, that's what they said with my little girl's hand after she had a very severe burn from ...a frikking generic pop tart! (She had to have a skin graft!) They said to keep sunscreen on it during the summer.

Strength and patience is what I needed today,.....just to get through cleaning the bathroom.....I won't go into details but lets just say it was unpleasant and being that I cannot kneel I had to get creative with a bench, picture this, I had to lean over that bench on my stomach to clean the floor and surrounding cabinets, etc....it was not a pretty picture, but I got through it, lol what a day it has been!

Yes he is feeling better, now it is me who has the flu, actually started yesterday afternoon around 4, I was making dinner, and it hit me, my son came over for dinner and I told him I didn't feel good, go ahead and eat, he started to eat then said mom I can't eat I have to go home I am afraid I am going to get the flu too, so he went home, after that I was so sick, I have a huge mess in the kitchen, a headache, and my ribs are hurting, so I am not doing anything but sitting here waiting to feel better, thankfully I feel better than I did last night! everything else will have to wait.

He has another 2 antibiotics to take but should start feeling better in a few days the doc said. My son went and picked him up at 7 this morning, needless to say my son and I didn't get much sleep last night, but DH is already in bed sleeping! I swear can it get any worse? Hopefully DH gets better like yesterday cause he is driving me nuts...yeah I know that is a short walk and he is sick, BUT every 2 minutes it's get me this, hand me that, can you do this, get me my meds, more water, cover me, hand me the control, etc........men! Things better calm down or else.....

Hugs & virtual soup coming from me too, along with the prayers. I know the doc will help you out tomorrow. Lotsa fluids until then, flush those kidneys!

Thanks for the virtual soup and Hugs.....and prayers, all needed and appreciated, hopefully the new medicine will help asap! I just bought him 2 huge bottles of Cranberry Juice, Popsicles, and Creamsicles today to make the man happy for 2 minutes, lol

He sounds like my 4 year old in her cast!! As soon as I walk out of the room she is yelling "mommy come here"!!! And of course she has to go potty two different times!! I know you have your hands full! Men are just big babies when they are sick! Good luck to you!!

Yes they can be big babies, I don't discount what he has just gone through in the past 3 weeks, I know he is hurting, especially with this latest medical problem Diverticulitus, it is painful, BUT, when I come into the room and ask him something like 6 times do you want water, juice, help with anything and he says no, I leave and he calls me 2 minutes later and says can you do XYZ, hello, I was just there asking you 6 times! lol I guess we will get through it all, I keep telling myself over and over, God grant me the patience!! lol
I hope your daughter is doing good, she sure is a strong person when you think of it, for being so young. Hugs to you and her!!

Don't ever ask God for paitience!!! That is why we are dealing with what we are dealing with! God is teaching us PAITIENCE!!! I was asking for paitience until Emily had her accident. Now I just ask Him for HELP!! She is doing good! We took her to see the Christmas lights at the Zoo and she loved that! I cannot wait until the 4th for her to get out of that cast!!

Rebecca! LOL!

I am glad she is doing better. Pretty soon she's going to be healed and all of this hardship will be a distant memory. :)

Keep your chin up, Carol!

Same here!! I was helping the kids pack this morning and then drove them and the ex to the airport in Raleigh-about a 5 hour drive round trip. Then came home to work!! So, I haven't been on much today.
Carol, it has to stop some time!! I'm certainly trying to believe that the new year will be a whole new start!!!
You know we kind of have something in common here. You want your hubbies illnesses to go away and I just want my whole hubby to go away!!:p Hopefully we will both get what we want!! Mine is gone for 6 days but then he'll be back for 3 and then gone again!!! Thank goodness!!:D
